NigComSat Revenue Explodes 200% to N2bn in Two Years – CEO

Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) has recorded a remarkable revenue surge from N650 million in 2023 to over N2 billion by end-2025, its Chief Executive Officer, Nkechi Jane Egerton-Idehen, announced at the opening of Nigerian Satellite Week 2026 in Abuja.

The event celebrating NigComSat’s 20th anniversary gathered government, industry and academic stakeholders to chart Nigeria’s role in the global space economy.

Egerton-Idehen described the tripling of revenue as strong returns on Nigeria’s space investments, with the agency transforming from a single-satellite operator to a multi-service provider offering connectivity, broadcasting infrastructure and broadband across Africa.

She confirmed procurement completed for NIGCOMSAT-2A and 2B launches scheduled for 2028 and 2029 respectively, following President Bola Tinubu’s approval to replace the ageing NIGCOMSAT-1R nearing end-of-life in 2026.

The new satellites will bolster national and regional security through real-time data and intelligence for security agencies, the CEO stated.

Nigeria leads West Africa’s satellite presence while Egypt (14 satellites) and South Africa (13) dominate the continent’s 69-satellite total. Egypt’s Nilesat posted $65.6 million profit in 2025 despite revenue dip, while South Africa’s Sentech grew revenue 16% to $93.5 million but reported losses.
