Global Coalition Condemns Iran’s Strait of Hormuz Blockade, Attacks on Shipping

A coalition of nations has issued a forceful joint statement strongly condemning Iran’s recent assaults on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, strikes on civilian oil and gas infrastructure, and effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, demanding immediate cessation under UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

The group expressed deep alarm at the escalating conflict, urging Iran to halt threats, mine-laying, drone and missile attacks aimed at blocking the vital waterway—through which 20 percent of global oil flows—while stressing that freedom of navigation remains a cornerstone of international law via the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Iran’s actions threaten worldwide stability, hitting vulnerable populations hardest by disrupting energy supply chains and risking broader peace, the statement warned, calling for a full moratorium on civilian infrastructure attacks consistent with UNSC 2817.

In response, the coalition pledged readiness to support safe passage efforts through the Strait, applauded preparatory planning by committed nations, and backed the International Energy Agency’s release of strategic petroleum reserves alongside steps to boost output from key producers and aid impacted countries via the UN and International Financial Institutions.
