Lagos Court Convicts AAC Consulting for ₦30.5m Chevron Staff Theft

    Lagos Court

The conviction was delivered on Friday, January 23, 2026, by Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.

The company was arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on January 12, 2026, on an amended one-count charge bordering on stealing, contrary to Section 285(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 44, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

AAC Consulting Limited and its Managing Director, Anthony Adeoye, were initially arraigned on June 5, 2023, on a 50-count charge bordering on stealing and issuance of dud cheques.

At the commencement of trial, the defendants pleaded not guilty, prompting a full trial.

During the trial, prosecuting counsel I.O. Daramola called two witnesses and tendered several documents, all of which were admitted in evidence by the court.

However, following the repayment of the full sum of ₦30,564,635.81 to the petitioners in December 2023, the defendants changed their plea from not guilty to guilty.

Subsequently, the EFCC amended the charge, and AAC Consulting Limited pleaded guilty to a single count of stealing.

The charge stated that: “AAC Consulting Limited, on or about April 27, 2013, at Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, dishonestly converted to its own use the aggregate sum of ₦30,564,635.81, property of contract staff of Chevron Nigeria Limited.”

After reviewing the plea and evidence before the court, Justice Rahman Oshodi found the company guilty and convicted it accordingly.

The court ordered AAC Consulting Limited to pay a ₦5 million fine within 14 days, warning that failure to comply would result in the winding up of the company.
