Lagos State Police Command has temporarily suspended its investigation into multiple rape and related allegations against Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, pending the outcome of a parallel probe by Zone 2 Command.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh had earlier directed the cleric to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Panti for questioning. The case was subsequently transferred to Assistant Inspector-General Sylvester Alabi at Zone 2, under the supervision of Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, told journalists that the suspension followed the failure of invited complainants to honour police summons. “There has not been further investigation from the command. All the complainants we have been calling have refused to show up,” she said.
Probe Halted to Avoid Duplication
Ms Adebisi explained that Lagos Command could not conduct a parallel inquiry while Zone 2 was already investigating similar petitions against the pastor. “When it is done with them in Zone 2, we will reopen ours,” she added.
The command released Pastor Okafor on self-recognition to proceed to Zone 2 for further interrogation. “We are not pushing the complainants further. We just wait for the outcome,” the spokesperson noted.
Allegations Stem from Actress’ Claims
The controversy erupted in December 2025 when Nollywood actress Doris Ogala accused Pastor Okafor of reneging on a marriage promise, leading to her emotional distress. Other women have since levelled rape and sexual misconduct allegations against him.
In response, the cleric issued a public apology to Ms Ogala and others he admitted wronging. He also accused his ex-wife, Bessem, of adultery, a claim she denied while alleging physical abuse during their marriage.
Pastor Okafor has since stepped aside from ministerial duties for one month amid the escalating public dispute. Ravenewsonline reports that Zone 2’s findings will determine Lagos Command’s next steps.
