DOGE Disbanded Eight Months Before Charter Expiry

U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), created to streamline federal operations and reduce costs, has been disbanded with eight months left on its charter.

Officials confirmed that the office, launched in January 2025 under President Donald Trump, has ceased operations, with its functions absorbed into the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

DOGE was introduced as a flagship initiative to cut government spending and improve efficiency, with Elon Musk appointed to lead the effort.

While supporters credited the office with reducing expenditures, critics argued that it delivered few measurable savings.

By November 2025, OPM Director Scott Kupor stated that “DOGE doesn’t exist,” signaling the premature end of the initiative.

The closure raises questions about the sustainability of government reform efforts and the challenges of applying private-sector efficiency models to federal bureaucracy.

Observers noted that the disbandment undermines earlier pledges to dramatically shrink government size, while leaving uncertainty about future strategies for cost-cutting and efficiency reforms
