Fraud Syndicate Busted: Nigerian Man Arrested at Lagos Airport with 783 SIM Cards

Airport Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Abraham Akpojisheri, for alleged involvement in a global cyber fraud syndicate. He was caught with 783 MTN SIM cards at the local wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on June 24, 2025.

The suspect, said to be from Abraka, Delta State, was intercepted by aviation security officials just before boarding a flight to Asaba. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Daramola Kazeem, Akpojisheri confessed to being part of a network engaged in identity theft and internet scams targeting victims worldwide.

Investigations revealed that the SIM cards were acquired in South Africa and intended for hacking into financial systems, including CARD EAS platforms. The suspect reportedly used social media, especially Facebook, to impersonate foreign nationals and deceive unsuspecting victims into fraudulent forex investments.

He is said to have defrauded at least 10 Americans of tens of thousands of dollars. He also disclosed working closely with an accomplice based in Ukraine, identified as Okiemute, who trained him in online fraud.

Police confirmed that his syndicate had operational links in South Africa, Ukraine, and Nigeria. The airport Commissioner of Police, CP Olufunke Adeayo Ogunbode, praised the officers who refused a bribe offered by the suspect and assured that no crime would go unpunished under her watch.
