National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a self-styled luxury goods dealer and social media influencer, Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as “KC Luxury”, over his alleged involvement in a multibillion-naira cocaine trafficking syndicate.

The NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Marwa (retd.), disclosed this on Tuesday, saying Michael was arrested on Aug. 13 at the boarding gate of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Marwa said the suspect was intercepted while allegedly attempting to board a business-class flight to Paris.

He said operatives recovered €7,750, £2,800 and N100,000 in cash, as well as expensive jewellery, from the suspect at the point of arrest.

According to him, a subsequent search of Michael’s luxury apartment in Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, led to the recovery of several exotic vehicles.

Marwa said the ongoing investigation into the alleged syndicate had so far led to the seizure of 184.50 kilogrammes of cocaine, valued at about N39 billion on the street.

He added that foreign currencies and other luxury assets were also recovered in connection with the operation.

Before his arrest, Michael had gained popularity on social media for displaying an extravagant lifestyle, including high-end vehicles, Hermès Birkin bags and designer jewellery.

Following the NDLEA announcement, photographs and videos of the influencer displaying his luxury possessions resurfaced across social media platforms, generating public interest and scrutiny.

The NDLEA said investigations into the alleged drug trafficking network were ongoing.
