Premier League Fines Manchester City £1.08 Million for Repeated Kick-off Delays

The Premier League has issued a £1.08 million ($1.45 million) fine to Manchester City Football Club following repeated breaches of kick-off and restart regulations during the 2024/2025 season. The disciplinary action pertains to delayed starts in nine separate matches between October and February.

According to a statement released by Premier League officials, Manchester City acknowledged the infractions and offered an apology for the disruptions, which included a delay of two minutes and 24 seconds at the Manchester derby held at Old Trafford in December.

The Premier League emphasized the importance of punctuality in maintaining professional standards and ensuring predictable schedules for fans, broadcasters, and clubs.  “Rules relating to kick-offs and restarts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs,” the League noted.

This is not the first time City has been sanctioned for similar offenses. Last season, the club faced a £2 million fine for 22 instances of late kick-offs.

Manchester City, led by manager Pep Guardiola, finished third in the Premier League this season, ending a four-year reign as champions. The team also endured a surprise defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final and is currently participating in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
