EBS Stresses Importance of Transparency with Edo State Officials

The Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) has called attention to the critical need for open communication and transparency between government officials and the media.

In a recent statement, EBS expressed concern over the reluctance of some appointees to engage with journalists, including those from EBS, as the station seeks to provide comprehensive coverage of the first 100 days of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.

The management emphasized that the media serves as a vital pillar of democracy, fostering accountability and ensuring that the public has access to accurate and timely information about policies and programmes that affect their lives.

EBS reiterated its commitment to operating with the highest standards of transparency, similar to privately-owned stations, and stated its resolve not to shield officials or obscure facts, especially when their agencies are under scrutiny.

To address the issue, EBS announced that it would document all efforts made to communicate with officials. Instances of unresponsiveness or declined interviews will be clearly reported in its coverage, underscoring the importance of accessibility and accountability from government representatives.

The statement also commended Governor Okpebholo for his dedication to public service, including his active inspection of state projects, and urged appointees to emulate his transparency and commitment to the public interest.

EBS expressed optimism for a more collaborative relationship with both appointed and elected officials, emphasizing that such cooperation is essential to ensuring that citizens of Edo State receive the information they rightfully deserve.
