ASUU Declares Pantami’s Professorship Illegal, Vows to Sanction FUTO VC , Others

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has deemed unconstitutional the Federal University of Owerri’s promotion of Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, to the level of professor.

Ravenewsonline.com reports that ASUU president Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke made the announcement during a news conference on Monday.

“You cannot be a minister and a university instructor at the same time.” “It encourages criminality,”

“Pantami must resign as a minister and face trial for doing two jobs inside the same federal system.” He is ineligible. Pantami should not be considered a professor.”

The union has also threatened to penalize FUTO’s Vice-Chancellor and all union members implicated in the promotion.

Pantami was elevated to the academic level of professor by FUTO in September 2021, along with several other professors at the institution, raising questions about his eligibility for the elevation.
