Five Things to Know About MTN’s Fibre-to-the-Home Service

MTN

Regardless of one’s reason for being online – whether for business or entertainment, there is no doubt that the internet experience greatly improves when the speed is faster. For today’s internet consumers both at home and at the office, fibre optic is the future of data.

Fibre is the most sought-after method for sending and receiving data, as it allows for massive data bandwidths and enables the fastest internet speed. Fiber technology uses laser pulses to transmit billions of bits of data per second through long, thin strands of glass, at speeds more than 100 times faster than traditional non-fiber.

Today’s residential apartments and businesses are increasingly filled with a range of smart devices, each using bandwidth to connect to the internet. From smartphones, gaming systems, and smart televisions to virtual assistants, these devices need ample bandwidth to work well.

MTN Nigeria, in its commitment to enhance internet connectivity, has deployed fibre optic capabilities to residential users across the country, and recently unveiled its newly installed fibre-to-the-home network in Dakkada community of Akwa Ibom State as part of its smart city projects. The fibre optics network will ensure a dramatic improvement of the quality of service and allow connectivity to multiple people whilst ensuring increasing bandwidth usage.

Here are five things to note about MTN’s fibre-to-the-home services:

  1. What is MTN Fibre? MTN Fibrenet also known as fibre-to-the-home is a high-speed internet service for offices and homes to stay connected to the internet all day. The service enables consumers to surf the internet, stream TV and videos on demand, play online games, enjoy clearer video calls and so much more at a super high speed.
  2. How MTN Fibre works: MTN will string Fibre optic cables from the nearest network point to customer location, install a router (CPE) at customer premises and connect to Fibre. Configure the CPE/router for internet access. Consumers can connect via CPE/Router Wi-Fi or cable.
  3. Great Service Features: MTN Fibre-to-the-home has great features such as faster internet speed and the most reliable internet connectivity, fully automated account management and online channels, a variety of affordable and flexible bundles to choose from, 24/7 customer service and technical support, payment options via MoMo, MTN Airtime and third-party channels.
  4. How to Get Started: Getting broadband by MTN fixed at your home or office is not a stressful process. All you need to do is visit any MTN office near you and place a request, authorized personnel will be sent to your area to check coverage and if your area passes the brief coverage test, MTN technicians will proceed to install the broadband.
  5. MTN fibre broadband is a high-speed internet for the home or office: The service ensures faster internet speed and the most reliable internet connectivity. It also massively helps with upload speeds, ensuring that there is no disruption in internet connection.

MTN Fibre-to-the-home was initiated with businesses in mind, it helps businesses which require the internet for their daily operations to successfully transact business all the time.

The telecoms giant has also just partnered with Landafrique, an integrated real estate firm to deploy fibre-optic infrastructure to connect homes and businesses in Agbara Estate. The agreement was signed at a formal ceremony held at MTN Nigeria’s Headquarters in Ikoyi on November 17, 2021, and had in attendance, MTN and Landafrique management.

The partnership spans 10 years and covers the deployment of MTN Fibrenet Broadband internet services with at least 5Mbps and internet throughput to each housing unit; as well as industrial and commercial units within the estate.

Nigerians are quickly adopting fibre-to-the-home internet services due to the affordable and durable nature of fibre which is environmentally friendly and can’t be damaged, stolen, or mistaken as a copper cable.

MTN is committed to improving internet penetration across Nigeria and has recently revealed plans to invest $1.5 billion over the next three years to increase broadband across the country.
