Nigerian Government has launched a free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion programme for vehicles at six designated locations across Lagos State.
The initiative, facilitated by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), aims to provide a cost-effective alternative to petrol for vehicle owners.
Announcing the development on Thursday, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, shared details via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
He said the CNG conversion process will kick off on Friday, September 13, from 3 pm to 6 pm under “Operation First Come, First Serve.”
According to Osiyemi, vehicle owners who wish to benefit from the initiative must have their cars inspected at one of the six locations.
The first 50 vehicles that pass inspection at each site will receive a free CNG conversion kit. With this kit, vehicle owners will be able to refuel at N230 per Standard Cubic Meter (SCM) of CNG at NIPCO stations, offering substantial savings compared to the rising costs of petrol.
He urged Lagos residents to take advantage of the opportunity, encouraging them to utilise the authorised vehicle CNG conversion centres listed below:
Femadec: Km 42, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Majek Second Gate Stop, Abiju Ibeju, Lekki, Lagos.
Portland: No. 1, Ojota Interchange Terminal, Bayo Shodipo, Ojota, Lagos.
Mezovest: KM 23, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Ajah, opposite Kilimanjaro, beside Libmat Motors, by Abraham Adesanya Bus Stop.
Dana Motors: Dana Motors Ltd Kia Plaza, 117 Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Isolo, Lagos.
MBH Power: Km 5, Ikotun Road, Itamope, Ikorodu, Lagos.
Autogig: Plot 144b Gbagada Expressway, Gbagada, Lagos.
Meanwhile, as part of the PCNGI’s “Operation First Come, First Serve” initiative, CNG conversion exercises will be held in Lagos on Friday, with similar events scheduled in four other cities between Friday and Saturday.
However, on Friday, September 13, CNG conversions will be conducted in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and Ibadan, Oyo State, from 3 PM to 6 PM.
The following day, Saturday, September 14, conversion exercises will take place in Abuja and Kaduna between 3 PM and 6 PM.
He further explained that the first 50 vehicles inspected at the designated centres in these cities, if they pass the conversion process, will receive free CNG kits.
President Bola Tinubu launched the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), aimed at revolutionising Nigeria’s transportation by introducing over 11,500 CNG-enabled vehicles and 55,000 conversion kits for petrol vehicles.
