President Tinubu signs new N70,000 minimum wage bill into law

President Bola Tinubu has officially signed the new national minimum wage bill into law.

The signing ceremony took place during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, July 29.

The bill, which was swiftly passed by both chambers of the National Assembly last week, marks a significant legislative milestone. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, along with other members of the National Assembly leadership, joined the FEC for this historic event.

This occasion is noteworthy as it is the first time since the current democratic dispensation that the leadership of the legislature has been admitted into the Council Chamber during an FEC meeting.

The National Assembly leadership arrived at the venue at 1:38 PM, underscoring the importance of their participation in this landmark moment. Their presence at the council meeting comes amid rising tensions and planned protests by some Nigerians over the increasing cost of living in the country.
