    Presidency Presents Documentary to Mark 2021 Democracy Day

    The presidency announced that it would present a one-hour documentary titled “Nigeria: Consolidating Democracy and National Unity”, in commemoration of Democracy Day 2021 scheduled for June 12.

    According to a statement made on Wednesday in Abuja by the president’s spokesman Malam Garba Shehu, the documentary will debut simultaneously on the networks of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Channels TV this Saturday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

    He said TVC will air the documentary from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on June 13.

    The presidential aide revealed that the film starred President Muhammadu Buhari and dignitaries, who were central to the canceled June 12 election and subsequent events, including retired General Abdulsalam Abubakar and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

    Kola Abiola, Hafsat Abiola-Costello and Mohammed Fawehinmi, son of a legal authority, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, who, together with Amb. Babagana Kingibe, was also recognized with a national honor of Grand Commander of the Order of Niger were also presented.

    Shehu said sections of the documentary were devoted to the annulled election, the process of recognition and evolution of Nigerian democracy, and the continued quest for its consolidation and national unity since independence in 1960.

    He added that the documentary was shot exclusively in Nigeria and directed by award-winning, Nigerian-American, Hollywood-based filmmaker Ose Oyamendan.

    Also presented are President Goodluck Jonathan, the children of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the first and only Prime Minister of the country, those of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the first opposition leader of the republic and of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, the first president of Nigeria

    Others are Amb. Shehu Malami, nephew of Sir Ahmadu Bello and son of Sultan Abubakar III, as they capture the spirit of Nigeria’s Independence Day in 1960, ”he added. (NAN)
