Mr. Usman Baba, Inspector General of Police (IGP), has called for collaboration between the Nigerian Police and the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) in accrediting the legal department of his academy.
Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer (DFPRO) made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Adejobi said that the IGP made the call when he directed the members of the leadership of the force in a courtesy visit to the CJN, Judge Ibrahim Tanko.
The IGP said the collaboration was to secure the accreditation of the Legal Department of the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
According to him, this is to allow graduates of the academy to continue their studies at the Nigerian Law School.
“This is to ensure that the police have more lawyers within their group to strengthen their prosecution functions and hopefully produce more Senior Advocates for Nigeria (SAN) in the future,” he said.
Baba said the visit was also to solidify the synergy between the police and the judiciary as key players in the nation’s criminal justice system.
He said that the idea was to guarantee a smooth and efficient administration of justice.
However, the IGP pledged his administration’s commitment to uphold the sanctity of the criminal justice system and the rule of law, which it said are key to professionalism and citizen vigilance.
In its comment, CJN praised the team for the visit, saying it was the first IGP of its kind.
He also commended the IGP for their thoughtfulness and expressed his office’s readiness to continue partnering with the Nigerian Police Force for a smooth administration of justice.
