Operatives of the Quick Response Squad of the Nigeria Police Force in Delta State have apprehended 34 suspected internet fraudsters following a raid on a residential apartment in Opete, near Warri.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed that the operation was carried out based on intelligence received from a distress caller. The caller reported that her younger brother had sent a message indicating he was being held against his will and coerced into engaging in cybercrime activities.
Edafe said the raid uncovered what appeared to be a coordinated cybercrime syndicate operating from a location disguised as a regular residence but converted into a hub for internet fraud.
“All 34 suspects were arrested at the scene,” he stated.
Items recovered during the operation include 37 laptops, one iPad, seven mobile phones, and a calabash containing suspected charms, suggesting the scale and organised nature of the activities.
The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ operations and possible links to wider criminal networks.
The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling cybercrime and urged members of the public to continue providing timely information to aid law enforcement efforts.
