Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the appointment of Mrs. Titilayo Olayinka as the new Accountant General of the state.
The appointment took effect on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, barely 24 hours after Olayinka retired from the Ekiti State Civil Service upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, saying the appointment was part of the administration’s effort to retain experienced professionals in strategic government positions.
Olayinka previously served as Accountant General and Permanent Secretary in the state civil service. She held the position of Accountant General from November 28, 2019, until her retirement on August 24, 2026.
According to Oyebode, Ekiti has now joined states such as Enugu, Osun and Akwa Ibom, which have engaged experienced retired accountants general to continue managing their public finances. He added that some other states, including Kwara, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and Katsina, have appointed professionals from outside the civil service to occupy similar positions.
The governor’s media aide said Olayinka would bring extensive experience in accounting, auditing, project management, expenditure control and procurement to her new assignment.
He said she had also been given a mandate to establish a comprehensive training programme for accountants across the state civil service to strengthen their professional capacity.
Olayinka is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration and has gained experience across the private sector, public sector and international development.
Oyebode said Olayinka’s contributions over the past six years had helped strengthen accountability, transparency and fiscal management in Ekiti State.
He cited the state’s number-one ranking in the BudgIT State Fiscal Transparency League for the second, third and fourth quarters of 2024 and all four quarters of 2025 as some of the achievements recorded during her tenure.
He also noted that Ekiti was recognised among the leading states in local government budget transparency and the Subnational Audit Efficacy Index by the Public and Private Development Centre.
The state was further rated among the top 10 states in Nigeria for publishing detailed and accessible budget information for its Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.
Oyebode said the recognitions reflected the state’s progress in financial accountability, auditing and prudent management of public resources.
Congratulating Olayinka on her appointment, Governor Oyebanji commended her previous service to the state and urged her to bring even greater dedication and professionalism to her new role.
