Osinbajo Inaugurates National Traffic Radio

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday opened National Traffic Radio, 107.1 FM at Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Headquarters, Abuja. Osinbajo described the radio station as an important and strategic initiative in several ways.

According to him, the service will allow effective dissemination of relevant information on road safety and the provision of up-to-date information on road conditions, as well as traffic conditions and safety to the public.

Osinbajo said that beyond the primary goal of improving the operations of FRSC staff, the radio station would also be useful in reaching remote areas for teaching.

He said it would help disseminate public health advisories and general information to Nigerians.

The vice president was featured in the radio station’s traffic news program, where he gave a live report on the traffic situation across the country, especially in areas in and around of the CTF, Jos and Lagos. He was funny and jovial about it.

“Good afternoon, wherever you are in this great country, here is Yemi Osinbajo, your always ready and always accurate traffic reporter keeping you up to date on the traffic situation across the country.

“So let’s go to the CTF; a few minutes ago the incoming section Keffi-Abuja, the traffic from Nyanya under the bridge to Kugbo, towards the city center, is slightly fluid, no obstacles were reported.

“Umaru Musa Yar’adua Way, the situation report shows that there is fluid traffic on both sections of the highway.

“Kubwa-Katampe, Wuse-Berger, Traffic Services Unit reports there is fluid traffic with moderate movement of vehicles.

The traffic update along the Lagos-Ibadan highway at 11:45 a.m. indicated that the inner corridor and section of the highway is experiencing very slow traffic but moving from the lottery section to NASFAT, a Chinese company around Magboro, Punch-Arepo inland, Warewa, due to the large influx of vehicles and the narrowing of the lane around the construction area.

“The tight turn associated with picking up and dropping off passengers, all of that causes slow movement around this area.

“Osinbajo said that traffic coming from the Plateau from around noon, general traffic in the metropolis of Jos-Bukuru was fluid.

He urged Jos-Hawan Kibo, motorists to beware of hills and steep bends around Hawan Kibo.

“Additionally, Jos-Bukuru-Vom experiences smooth traffic, while motorists are advised to be careful around Ganaruwa Hill.”

Jos Metropolis, users of the road that i sailing inward from Polo-Gada Biu through the metropolis have to watch out for heavy vehicles and drive with extreme caution.

At the Hill station roundabout to the axis of the Polo roundabout is rough terrain. “So the overall conclusion is that road users are urged to obey the traffic laws, to avoid dangerous driving and to use the roads in the most responsible manner possible.

“Everything will be fine today, it will be a great and exciting day. I am sure you are going to have some very good news. Thank you dear listeners, always stay safe, ”he said.

Responding to questions from reporters, FRSC Corps Marshall Boboye Oyeyemi said the radio station was born out of need to improve public education.

Oyeyemi said he noticed the gap when he arrived in 2014 and worked to close it.

He said the first thing he did was study what Lagos traffic radio was doing and thought it could be applied nationally.

“And I shared my idea with them and what we have today is history; we now have a national traffic radio.

“This is only the first phase and with that it covers Abuja and its surroundings and also on the Google Play Station you can download the National Traffic Radio app and you can listen to it in any part of the country. ; also we broadcast on the website.

“The implication is that every hour we give the nationwide traffic situation and accident situation and we also encourage road users that while traveling, if we see a broken down vehicle or an accident or whatever happens, you can call the toll-free line 122 or call you directly to the traffic radio studio.

“It’s about involving the public in the management of road safety and as the vice president said, road safety is a collective responsibility.

“All Nigerians must join the corps to ensure that we reduce the carnage on our highways,” he said. (NAN)
