NO SACRED COWS? Lagos Govt Vows Jail Time as Access Bank Dumps Untreated Poo and Attacks Inspectors!

    Access-Bank

Lagos State Government has initiated moves to seal Access Bank Plc’s Victoria Island facility at Oniru for allegedly discharging untreated faecal matter into public drains and assaulting enforcement officials.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the action followed a whistleblower tip, leading to an inspection by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office that exposed a non-functional treatment plant causing environmental harm.

Wahab alleged security and management resisted sealing, attacking officials, while effluent samples tested positive for contamination.

The government plans court action for arrests and prosecutions, with teams returning to enforce closure. “There will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of environmental regulations. Any individual or organisation found violating environmental laws, regardless of status, will be held accountable,” Wahab affirmed.

The incident raises alarms on corporate compliance in Victoria Island’s commercial hub.
