Nigeria Football Federation has approved the change of name for the country’s top-flight football league.

The decision to change the name was ratified at the 79th NFF Annual General Assembly in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Sunday, September 10.

According communique released after the AGA, the NFF approved the change of name of the country’s topflight league from Nigeria Professional Football League to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

It said the approval to change the name was one amongst other decisions taken at the congress.

The NFF had earlier informed the NPL board that only the NFF Congress had the power to change the name when the newly inaugurated NPL board launched a new logo and new name for the league.

At the time, NFF president, Ibrahim Gusau, thanked Congress for the confidence reposed in him and the Executive Committee members during the last elections.
