    NERC Completes Transfer of Electricity Market Oversight to State Governments – Ravenewsonline

    Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has completed the transfer of regulatory oversight of the electricity market in Enugu, Ekiti, Imo, and Ondo states to their respective state governments.

    In a statement released on Monday, January 13, 2025, NERC confirmed that the process was finalized as of January 10, 2025, while the transfer process for Oyo, Edo, Kogi, Lagos, Ogun, and Niger states are still ongoing.

    The transfer of electricity market regulation to Enugu and Ekiti states was approved by NERC on April 22, 2024. Ondo State’s electricity market oversight was transferred to the state’s electricity regulatory commission on April 23, 2024. On July 1, 2024, Imo State’s power market regulation was handed over to its electricity regulatory commission.

    NERC further transferred regulatory control to the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission on August 5, 2024. Edo State followed with the transfer of electricity market oversight to the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ESERC) on August 21, 2024.

    On September 18, 2024, Kogi State’s electricity market oversight was transferred to the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC). Lagos State’s electricity market was transferred to its government on December 19, 2024, while Ogun State’s electricity regulatory commission received control of its market on December 30, 2024.

    The most recent transfer, for Niger State, was finalized on January 10, 2025, when NERC issued an order transferring regulatory oversight to the Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
