NDLEA Busts Widow Who Inherited Drug Trade, Used Fake Pregnancy to Move Cocaine

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic 1.3 kilograms of cocaine concealed under a fake pregnancy.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Ezewuike—proprietress of Golden Star Creation, a fashion outfit located on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos—was apprehended on Friday, August 22, 2025, at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba.

She was en route to deliver the illicit consignment to clients in Abuja.

Following her arrest, NDLEA operatives conducted a search of her residence, where they recovered 200 grams of a cutting agent used in processing cocaine.

In her statement to investigators, Ezewuike claimed she inherited the drug trade from her late husband, who died two years ago. Despite being in the fashion business for over two decades, she admitted to continuing the criminal enterprise.

The agency described the smuggling method—using a prosthetic belly to simulate pregnancy—as a deceptive tactic aimed at evading detection.

Babafemi noted that the arrest underscores NDLEA’s vigilance and commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks across Nigeria.

Ezewuike, a mother of one, is currently in custody as investigations continue.
