Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has rolled out the National Spectrum Roadmap 2026–2030, promising transparency and predictable regulation to power Nigeria’s digital future.

Executive Vice Chairman Dr. Aminu Maida announced this Monday at a stakeholders’ consultation forum in Abuja on the roadmap and guidelines for the lower 6GHz and 60GHz licence-exempt bands. Represented by Head of Spectrum Administration Atiku Lawal, Maida said the measures target nationwide service quality improvements.
“Our national ambitions are growing. We want faster speeds, wider coverage, better service quality, stronger innovation and greater inclusion,” Maida stated.

“This roadmap creates a transparent, predictable regulatory environment supporting investment, encouraging innovation, expanding access and improving service quality for all Nigerians.”
He highlighted the lower 6GHz and 60GHz guidelines to unlock high-speed, affordable connectivity capacity. “Spectrum is behind everything digital we do. Though invisible, it is indispensable to mobile, broadband, satellite, emergency and smart technologies,” Maida added.
Every video call, online classroom, digital transaction and connected device in Nigeria relies on spectrum, he noted, adding that preparations target future data demands across homes, campuses, businesses, healthcare facilities and public spaces.
Executive Commissioner for Technical Services Abraham Oshadami stressed equitable spectrum access. “Today’s engagement reaffirms our commitment to expanding wireless broadband through foresight, fairness and national development goals,” Oshadami said.

Earlier, Lawal described the roadmap as a strategic blueprint beyond a technical document. Huawei’s Dr. Lola Fafore said it would drive innovation, boost broadband penetration and lift national GDP.
The two-day forum deliberates on initiatives shaping Nigeria’s digital future.
