N182bn Police Budget Increase for New Salary – Reps

    House-of-Representatives-Reps

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Mukhtar Betara, explained on Thursday that the Nigeria Police 2022 budget was increased by N182bn to implement the approved salary increase for the police.

He spoke to reporters after the passage of the revised 2022 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the bill for N4trn petrol subsidy.

It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had written a letter to the House seeking the review of the MTEF, saying that the 2022 Appropriation Act deficit has risen by N965.42billion, to N7.35 trillion.

According to him, the military needs an increase in operational cost.

He said: “The army’s overhead is just 20 something billion naira; and capital, N37bn and you see army’s salary is four hundred and something billion naira.”
