MoMo Payment Service Bank (MoMo PSB), the fintech subsidiary of MTN Nigeria, has appointed Bode Abifarin as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

The appointment takes effect from Sept. 1, 2026.

Abifarin brings more than 23 years of experience across financial services, consulting, digital payments, fintech, strategy, operations and business transformation to the role.

Before her appointment, she served as the Chief Operating Officer of Flutterwave, where she led strategic expansion initiatives across multiple markets.

She also established scalable operating models, strengthened regulatory engagement and supported the development of payment solutions aimed at expanding access to financial services.

MoMo PSB said Abifarin’s experience in fintech, financial services and business transformation positioned her to lead the bank through its next phase of growth.

Serigne Dioum, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Group Fintech, described Abifarin as a strategic leader with extensive experience in innovation, operational transformation and financial inclusion.

“Her extensive experience in driving innovation, operational transformation and financial inclusion uniquely positions her to lead MoMo PSB into its next stage of growth and market leadership,” Dioum said.

Also speaking, Michael Ajukwu, Chairman of the MoMo PSB Board, said Abifarin’s experience in payments, digital transformation and stakeholder engagement would support the bank’s growth ambitions.

“Her extensive experience in payments, digital transformation and stakeholder engagement, combined with her passion for financial inclusion, makes her uniquely positioned to lead MoMo PSB into its next chapter of growth,” Ajukwu said.

Abifarin described her appointment as an opportunity to expand access to digital financial services and deepen financial inclusion across Nigeria.

“I am honoured to join MoMo PSB at a defining moment for digital financial services in Nigeria. Financial inclusion remains one of the greatest opportunities to unlock economic empowerment and prosperity for millions of people,” she said.

She said she would work with the bank’s team, regulators, partners and other stakeholders to accelerate access to innovative, secure and customer-centric financial solutions for individuals, businesses and communities.

Earlier in her career, Abifarin spent 15 years at KPMG, where she rose to the position of Associate Director in Management Consulting.

She advised financial institutions and organisations across Africa on strategy, business transformation, customer experience and growth.

She also founded Strata Advisory, a technology-focused advisory firm that supports businesses to scale and achieve sustainable growth.

Abifarin has received several recognitions during her career, including being named among the Top 100 Women in Global Fintech, the Inspiring 50 Women Shaping the Future of Technology in Africa, and the 30 Most Powerful Nigerian Women in Finance.

Her appointment comes as MTN continues to restructure and expand its financial technology business.

In April, MTN Nigeria announced plans to sell a 60 per cent stake in MoMo PSB and Y’ello Digital Financial Services to MTN Group for N152.06 billion.

MTN Nigeria is expected to retain a 40 per cent stake in the businesses under the proposed restructuring aimed at creating a more focused and scalable fintech operation.

The appointment also comes as MTN Group explores opportunities to expand beyond payments and strengthen its lending and broader financial services business.

The group recently said it was considering banking licences in selected African markets as it seeks to expand lending and other financial services.

Abifarin will lead MoMo PSB as it pursues plans to expand digital financial services, deepen financial inclusion and create more value for customers across Nigeria.
