Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has declared that winning the Champions League is his biggest priority as he targets European glory with the Spanish giants.
The France international made the statement after Real Madrid began their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.
Mbappe opened the scoring in the first half before Federico Valverde doubled Madrid’s advantage. Inter responded after the break through Carlos Augusto, but the hosts held on to secure all three points.
Speaking to CBS after the match, Mbappe said lifting the Champions League trophy with Real Madrid would mean more to him than any other achievement.
“The Champions League is even more important. I play for the club of my dreams.
“It’s really important for me to win the Champions League here in Madrid, I want it more than anything.”
Mbappe, who is among the nominees for this year’s Ballon d’Or, also believes he has a strong chance of claiming the individual award after scoring 10 goals at the 2026 World Cup.
However, the 27-year-old is yet to win a major club trophy since joining Real Madrid two years ago.
Madrid were knocked out by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of last season’s Champions League, increasing the pressure on the team to make a deeper run this time.
Mbappe acknowledged that Real Madrid must improve as a unit if they are to compete for the European title.
“It’s really early. We just started the Champions League now, we started with a win,” he said.
“We want to be a collective, we want to be a team who can compete with all the best teams in the world.”
He added that the expectations at Real Madrid were always extremely high and called on the squad to maintain its focus throughout the campaign.
“At Real Madrid, you always have to be at the top. I hope this year we’ll compete as a collective, to be where we want to be.”
With their opening victory secured, Mbappe and his teammates will now look to build momentum as they pursue the Champions League trophy that remains one of the biggest prizes yet to be added to his Real Madrid achievements.
