Recently, Dr. Reuben Abati, renowned journalist, author and social commentator joined the Duke on the Muvmnt studio in a lighthearted discussion on many issues bordering on governance, politics and the economy.

No topic was off the radar…on the government’s decision to renovate the presidential and vice-presidential residences for a staggering 21 billion naira, Abati lamented, “How can they justify spending billions on renovations when people are struggling to survive? It’s unacceptable and tone-deaf,” he said. “We have a cost of living crisis, and you are asking us to make sacrifices… why are you yourself not making sacrifices?”

Abati also emphasised the need for responsibility on social media, citing the abuse of the platform by some individuals who lack empathy and civility. He warned against the government’s potential regulation of social media, cautioning against possible abuse and erosion of freedom of expression.

As Abati passionately argued, governance should be about the people, not personal interests. “Leaders must make sacrifices amidst this cost-of-living crisis. It’s time for them to put the people first.” His words echo the sentiments of many Nigerians who feel neglected by their leaders.

Duke Rants on the Muvmnt Studio is a series of rants about life and its essence. According to the Duke, ‘I see life differently. I do not see life in the order that society has put us.’
