The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LTH), Ogbomoso, has threatened to resume its suspended industrial action on August 28, 2026, if the Oyo State Government and hospital management fail to resolve its outstanding welfare demands.
The association disclosed this in a statement signed by its President, Dr. Adedapo Mustapha, and General Secretary, Dr. John Stephen, on Thursday.
The resident doctors had suspended their industrial action on June 27 after granting the hospital management and relevant authorities an eight-week window to address their grievances.
According to the association, the decision to suspend the strike was made in good faith to preserve industrial harmony, support the development of the institution and prevent disruption of healthcare services across Oyo State.
However, the doctors said several critical issues remained unresolved as the deadline approached.
Among their outstanding demands are the full implementation and release of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), implementation of the new Professional Allowance table, payment of minimum wage arrears, and the urgent recruitment of resident doctors and other essential medical personnel.
The ARD described the demands as reasonable, noting that similar welfare provisions had already been implemented in other healthcare institutions.
The association also expressed concern over the severe shortage of medical personnel at LTH Ogbomoso, saying the situation had placed excessive pressure on the available doctors.
It said the shortage had resulted in prolonged and frequent call duties, while poor welfare conditions continued to make it difficult for the hospital to attract and retain resident doctors.
The doctors warned that the manpower shortage was not only a staff welfare issue but could also have serious implications for patient safety, quality healthcare delivery and the sustainability of medical services at the institution.
The association therefore appealed to the Oyo State Government, particularly the state governor, to intervene urgently and ensure that the outstanding issues were resolved before the expiration of the agreed period.
The ARD said it remained committed to the progress of LTH Ogbomoso and the delivery of quality healthcare to residents of the state.
It stressed that its preferred approach remained constructive engagement and dialogue, rather than industrial action.
However, the association warned that its patience had limits, stating that if the outstanding demands were not resolved, it would resume industrial action effective August 28, 2026.
The development puts pressure on the Oyo State Government and LTH Ogbomoso management to resolve the dispute before the deadline and avert another potential disruption of healthcare services at the teaching hospital.
