Lagos Court Orders Stanbic IBTC Officials to Appear in GTBank Contempt Case

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, has summoned 16 individuals, including top Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc executives, to explain alleged contempt in a dispute with Guaranty Trust Bank Plc over N806 million.

The order came in Suit No: FHC/L/CS/1738/2024, filed by GTBank against GY Farmers Ltd and others. A.B. Ogunba (SAN), for GTBank, moved a March 27, 2026, contempt motion seeking jail for disobeying October 25, 2024, preservative orders freezing funds and mandating account disclosures.

Targets include Stanbic IBTC’s Yinka Sanni, Wole Adeniyi, Olubunmi Dayo-Olagunju and others. GTBank claims the bank, despite notice, denied funded accounts linked to the 5th defendant—contradicting prior lien acknowledgment—despite a February 2026 attachment order.

Stanbic’s J.C. Iheanacho countered via affidavit that no such funds existed, calling cited letters routine. Adeyinka Olumide Fusika (SAN), for the 2nd defendant, decried false bank affidavits.

Justice Dipeolu found disputed communications unambiguous and adjourned to April 20, 2026, for personal appearances to avoid committal. GTBank also seeks piercing Stanbic’s corporate veil for officer liability.
