ABC has suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely following controversial comments made by host Jimmy Kimmel regarding the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
During his September 15 monologue, Kimmel criticized the political response to the incident, saying: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.”
The backlash was swift. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr condemned the remarks and hinted at regulatory consequences, while Nexstar and Sinclair Media announced they would stop airing the show on their ABC affiliates.
ABC later confirmed the indefinite suspension, stating the show would be “pre-empted indefinitely”.
Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with aggravated murder and other offenses in connection with Kirk’s death at Utah Valley University.
Kimmel has not publicly responded to the suspension, though he previously expressed condolences to Kirk’s family and called for unity in the face of gun violence.
