The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has mourned the death of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, describing him as a journalist who embodied integrity, professionalism and dedication to ethical journalism.
Adams, in a condolence statement issued on Thursday, described Oladipo’s sudden death as a significant loss to the journalism profession and all those committed to truthful and responsible reporting.
He condoled with Oladipo’s family, friends and colleagues, as well as the broader Nigerian journalism community.
The Yoruba leader also sympathised with the management and staff of Eagle Online, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) and Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
Adams described the late media executive as “a rare gem” whose contributions to Nigeria’s media industry would remain significant.
“Dotun Oladipo was more than just a journalist. We have lost a man whose work elevated the standards of reporting and publishing in Nigeria.
“He was a mentor and source of inspiration to many young journalists. His commitment to nurturing talent and promoting responsible journalism has left an indelible mark on the industry,” Adams said.
He noted that Oladipo distinguished himself through humility, professionalism and excellence, adding that he remained focused on his work rather than seeking public recognition.
According to Adams, Oladipo’s commitment to journalism was reflected in the quality of stories he published and the editorial decisions he made throughout his career.
He added that Oladipo’s influence extended beyond the newsroom, particularly through his leadership at Eagle Online, which he said helped shape public discourse and provided space for critical national issues.
“His editorial vision was characterised by a commitment to truth, fairness and the pursuit of justice, qualities that earned him respect across the media spectrum,” Adams said.
Adams urged Nigerians to honour Oladipo’s memory by celebrating his contributions to journalism, while encouraging media practitioners, particularly younger journalists, to emulate his professional and ethical standards.
He said Oladipo’s death should also serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining integrity and excellence in journalism.
“In mourning his loss, we must also renew our commitment to the principles he stood for. His legacy is a challenge to all of us to strive for excellence and integrity in our work,” he said.
