The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC ) FCT Special Marshal has advised drivers to adopt “common sense speed limits” when driving in the rain .
Sector Commander, FCT Command, FRSC, Mr. Samuel Ochi, said this on Sunday during the special national patrol in Abuja.
He said drivers should exercise caution to avoid the dangers of the rainy season.
Ochi said the essence of the national patrol is for the public to know that driving in the rain is an issue that should be viewed with caution.
According to him, the special commissioners are volunteers from the FRSC arm and they came together to observe the national patrol in order to enlighten the public on the safety advice on driving.
“The national patrol is an opportunity to get back into society through public information and law enforcement level.
“Special marshals are in the central area to make some level of corrections by enlightening the audience by realizing that we have entered the rainy season.
“We want to use special driving techniques on the highway during this time.
“It is important for Nigerians to understand that when the rainy season sets in, we have to take certain safety precautions,” he said.
Ochi said drivers should be aware that vehicles that are not roadworthy during the rainy season are most likely to have contrails.
“You need to have your wipers and lights properly equipped; a driver should know that the speed used when there is no rain is not the same as that used in the rain.
“The maximum speed limit is required when it rains. We call it the common sense speed limit.
“It’s important so that you don’t hit another man’s vehicle,” he said.
The FRSC boss urged those with vision problems to park their vehicles off the road during the rain.
A member of the Zango Kataf House of Representatives, Jaba Federal Constituency, Kaduna State, Representative Amos Magaji, said the board will act to strengthen, equip and encourage the FRSC to do well. function.
Magaji, also a member of the House Committee on Road Safety and Special Marshal, called on Nigerians and those in senior positions to join the FRSC to keep lives and property safe on the road.
“We want to encourage them to join our patrol, the special marshals to move this voluntary branch of the FRSC forward,” he said.
The Special Marshal, State Coordinator, Mr. Sanni Adisa, has warned motorists against speeding and overloading during the rainy season.
Adisa said the monthly national patrol is a time to educate and raise awareness, enforce and preach safety on Nigeria‘s roads, especially during the rainy season.
“I would like to advise them to avoid speeding, using the phone while driving and to avoid distractions, obstacles on the road, overtaking and overloading,” he advised. (NAN)
