Fresh Drama as Court Authorises Arrest of Ex-Minister Uche Nnaji

Chief Uche Nnaji, minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology,

A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a warrant for the arrest of former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, following an application by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over allegations of certificate forgery.

The arrest order was granted in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1160/2026 after the anti-corruption agency filed an ex parte motion before the court.

According to court documents, the application was supported by an affidavit sworn to by one David Nelson and sought the court’s approval to compel Nnaji’s appearance before investigators.

Counsel to the ICPC, Osuobeni Akponimisingha, told the court that the application became necessary following the former minister’s alleged failure to honour several invitations extended to him by the commission as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of forged academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) credentials.

The commission requested the court to issue a bench warrant authorising law enforcement agencies and other relevant authorities to arrest and hand over Nnaji for questioning.

It also sought permission to declare the former minister wanted through newspapers, social media platforms and other media channels if necessary.

The court granted the requests and ruled that the warrant would remain in force until Nnaji is apprehended.

Nnaji was appointed Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023.

He later resigned from office following allegations that documents submitted during his ministerial screening and confirmation process had been forged.

The ICPC has not disclosed when the former minister is expected to be arraigned, pending the outcome of its investigation.

Meanwhile, Nnaji recently emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Efforts to obtain his reaction to the development were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
