Enzo Fernández has revealed why he decided to leave Chelsea for Manchester City, saying he is excited about the new challenge and determined to help the club win more trophies.
The Argentina midfielder joined Manchester City from Chelsea in a £125 million deal, making him the first player in football history to complete two transfers worth more than £100 million.
Fernández said Manchester City’s winning mentality and the quality of the squad convinced him to make the move.
“I could not be happier to be here, and I am ready for the challenge of helping City continue winning trophies. This is a club built for success,” he said.
The 25-year-old also said he wants to learn from his new teammates and continue improving.
“If you look across the squad, City have quality in every area. I want to learn from my new teammates and become a better player,” he added.
Fernández will also reunite with Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with him at Chelsea.
His move comes after a difficult spell at Chelsea, where he faced criticism and was booed by sections of the supporters.
Despite his departure, Fernández said he remains grateful to the London club.
“Chelsea will always be in my heart,” he said in a farewell message.
The midfielder has now turned his attention to Manchester City and promised to give his best as he begins a new chapter at the club.
“I give absolutely everything and I can promise Manchester City that I will continue now I’m here,” Fernández said.
