#ENDSARS is New Movement for Human Rights & Good Governance, Says CDHR

Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), the foremost Human Rights Organization in Nigeria, has joined the true people of Nigeria this day, Wednesday 20th October, 2021 to commemorate the innocent souls that were unjustifiably brutally murdered by security agents of the Nigerian State.

CDHR joined the youths in marking the one year anniversary of the #ENDSARS Protests that took place in several cities and towns across the country in October, 2020.

The Human Rights group described the #ENDSARS Campaign that started in October, 2020 as a new Movement driven by the youths for the promotion of Human Rights and the demand for good governance in Nigeria.

CDHR asserted that what started as a protest against Police brutality, torture, extortion, extrajudicial murders, etc has become a consolidated Movement by the Nigerian youths.

It has become a symbolic representation of the voice of the people and the energy and resilience of Nigerian youths in determining the pattern of affairs in this country, including the capacity to determine electoral process and outcomes.

The group reiterated, through a statement made available to NAOSRE by the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade (Barr) Henry Peter Ekine, that citizens have a guaranteed right to express their opinions through legitimate means, including peaceful protests.

The statement advised the police and other security agencies to resist the temptation of preventing free citizens from associating, assembling and expressing their opinions about bad governance and their condemnation of brutality, torture, extortion, unlawful arrests and detention and ultimately against extrajudicial murder.

CDHR encourages Nigerian youths to uphold their freedom and continue to demand for their rights; citizens must continue to demand for good governance, transparency and accountability by public officials.

CDHR insists that #ENDSARS Movement will surely enthrone a new paradigm in the polity and evoke a change for the advancement of the nation.
