Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC says it will be appealing the judgment of Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos acquitting and discharging former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, from an alleged money laundering case preferred against him by the commission.

The former governor was re-arraigned on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, alongside Spotless Investment Limited on an 11-count charge bordering on money laundering and stealing to the tune of N6.9bn (Six Billion Nine Hundred Naira).

The EFCC in a statement released this afternoon, says it is commitment to the rule of law as it briefs its counsel to appeal the judgment.

In a judgment delivered today July 16, Justice Aneke discharged and acquitted Fayose of all charges in his long-standing money laundering case brought against him by the EFCC.

The court upheld Fayose’s no-case submission, effectively ruling that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against him to warrant further defence.

Fayose had been standing trial on allegations bordering on money laundering and fraud during his tenure as governor.
