    NDLEA Nabs Ex-Lagos Councilor with 40kg Cannabis, Intercepts 1,000 Opioid Pills in Baby Diapers

    Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former two-term Councillor from Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council in Lagos State over alleged illicit drug trafficking.

    The 45-year-old suspect, Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan—currently a legislative aide—was nabbed on Monday, March 2, 2026, at his Ilado residence in Ibeju-Lekki. A search yielded 40 kilograms of ‘skunk’ cannabis from one of the rooms.

    In a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said Sheleru admitted ownership of both the drugs and the property. He disclosed serving two terms as Councillor for Orimedu Ward in Ibeju-Lekki Council.

    In a linked operation, NDLEA officers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, intercepted 32-year-old businessman Emeka Hyginus Okwor aboard a vehicle from Obollo-Afor, Enugu State, en route to Zuba.

    A search of his luggage uncovered 1,000 pills of tapentadol (250mg each) hidden in baby diapers. Okwor confessed ownership, stating he was delivering the consignment to his provision store in Guduwa Village, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

    Babafemi reaffirmed NDLEA’s commitment to dismantling drug networks nationwide.
