The Edo State Government has issued electricity transmission and distribution licences to CCETC Ogua Energy Limited, expressing confidence that the company’s 100-megawatt power project in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area will be completed and commissioned before the end of 2026.
The state Commissioner for Power, Paul Usenbo, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City on Saturday.
Usenbo said the company had received its certificate of licence for electricity transmission as the government intensifies efforts to support the completion of the power project.
According to him, the project successfully met the key requirements and timelines for its first phase, which was completed in July 2026.
He said relevant government agencies had continued to provide technical guidance and regulatory support to the developers while ensuring compliance with required standards, assessments and other regulatory conditions.
With the first phase completed, Usenbo said attention had shifted to the second and final phase, which is expected to lead to the commissioning of the facility.
“The expectation is that CCETC Ogua Energy Limited will complete the remaining phase of the 100-megawatt power project in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area and proceed to commissioning by the end of 2026,” he said.
The commissioner said the state government had also issued transmission and distribution licences to the company in preparation for the project’s completion and eventual operation.
Usenbo disclosed that most of the major milestones associated with the project were expected to be substantially achieved by October 2026, provided there were no unforeseen challenges or regulatory delays.
He, however, assured the developers that the government was willing to extend the completion timeline if significant challenges affected the project.
“If there are any challenges faced by this project, I will give an extension of time,” he said.
According to him, the timeline could be extended to the first quarter of 2027 if necessary.
Despite the possibility of an extension, Usenbo expressed optimism about the progress of the project, citing the level of work already completed and the ongoing delivery and installation of power-generation equipment at the site.
He said he was confident that the generation machines being delivered would be installed and operational within the projected timeframe.
The 100MW project is expected to strengthen electricity supply in Edo State and support economic activities across the state when completed.
