Dubai police said on Monday, August 18, they had foiled the theft of a rare pink diamond worth $25 million, arresting three suspects just hours after the jewel was stolen.

According to a statement released by the Dubai Police General Command and carried by the UAE’s state news agency WAM, the diamond trader who brought the gem from Europe was targeted by a crime gang posing as wealthy clients. The trader was invited to a villa under the pretext of a private viewing, but the jewel was taken during the staged inspection.

Police said the thieves, three men from an unspecified Asian country, were caught within eight hours “thanks to the efforts of specialised and field teams, and by using the latest artificial intelligence technologies.” Video footage released by the Dubai Media Office showed the suspects with their faces blurred following the arrest, as well as CCTV clips of the gang in action.

Authorities described the recovered diamond as “very rare” and emphasised that the rapid response highlighted Dubai’s security readiness. The emirate is a key global hub for diamond trading, where strict controls and policing form part of its reputation for stability and safety.
