DSS releases Ladi Adebutu from custody – Ravenewsonline

The 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, has been released by the Department of State Services (DSS) after being detained in connection to alleged security breaches during the November 16 local government elections in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area.

Adebutu, a former lawmaker, was reportedly invited by the DSS on Monday, November 18, and detained for questioning.

He was released early Tuesday morning, November 19, 2024, at about 7 a.m.

In a statement personally signed by Adebutu and titled “My Experience and Release from the DSS,” he expressed gratitude for his release and reaffirmed his commitment to local government financial autonomy, which he believes is crucial for national development.

“The allegations against me were baseless and seemed intended to silence me as an opposition voice,” Adebutu said.

“My advocacy for free and fair elections to ensure local government financial autonomy aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s stance, proving it is not a partisan issue but a national imperative.”

Adebutu praised the DSS for their professionalism during his detention and acknowledged the judiciary’s role in upholding justice.

He referenced a recent Ogun State High Court judgment in favor of the PDP’s participation in the local elections, describing it as a pivotal moment for democracy in the state.

The DSS has not yet provided an official statement regarding Adebutu’s detention or the allegations against him.

Meanwhile, the PDP candidate has vowed to continue advocating for reforms and transparency in local government administration.
