A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, has ordered the remand of three suspects linked to the alleged murder of a former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Ms Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, for 60 days.
Chief Magistrate O.T. Odubanjo made the order on Monday after granting an application filed by the police seeking the remand of the suspects pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The suspects are Sodeinde Olajunwon Phillip, identified as the principal suspect, Sobu Obafunsho and Shakirudeen Ayoola.
The Police Legal Officer at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, Mr Abiodun, told the court that the application, dated and filed on July 6, was brought pursuant to Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice and Other Matters Law of Ogun State, 2017.
He prayed the court to remand the suspects at the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Oba for an initial period of 60 days while investigations are concluded and legal advice is obtained from the DPP.
Abiodun informed the court that the application was supported by a 24-paragraph affidavit deposed to by ASP Saka of the Homicide Section of the SCID.
He added that 17 exhibits and a written address were also attached to the application.
The prosecution urged the court to grant the application in the interest of justice.
Ruling on the application, the Chief Magistrate granted the request and ordered that the suspects be remanded for 60 days pending the DPP’s advice.
The late Oyesiku, a retired staff member of Ogun State Television, and her security guard were found dead in a pool of blood at her residence in Agodo, Ogun State, in June.
According to police investigations, the suspects allegedly confessed to killing Oyesiku, claiming they committed the act to “teach her a lesson.”
The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice.
