President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday pledged that his administration’s commitment to ensuring the national security and development that would ensure a prosperous and strong nation.
The President made this pledge at the graduation ceremony for Upper Course 43 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff School (AFCSC) Jaji, in Kaduna.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the president was represented by the Minister of Defense, Major-General. Bashir Magashi (retired).
The President said that the AFCSC had played a vital role in the achievements of Nigeria’s armed forces.
“Keep in mind that most of the security challenges facing the world today are both asymmetric and cross-border in nature, mainly involving non-state actors in different sub-regions and regions.
“As such, the specifics of your training, which focuses primarily on combating these threats, are most timely.
“Tackling these widespread security threats effectively requires that African countries continue to work together at all levels, whether tactical, operational or strategic.
“The synergy obtained by acting together must undoubtedly be reinforced by an understanding of the doctrines of the cooperating forces,” he said.
Buhari said the past 12 years have been particularly difficult for the nation, given the plethora of security threats that have besieged the country.
He said the armed forces are working tirelessly to improve their combat effectiveness, operational capability and the training needed to eliminate threats.
“The response of the Nigerian armed forces to the Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, militancy, kidnappings, as well as the activities of separatists and armed militias, among others, is commendable.
“The federal government will continue to provide the advice and support necessary to ensure that the desired goal is achieved.
“My administration will also continue to prioritize the training and well-being of the officers and men of our armed forces in order to maintain the territorial integrity of our beloved nation, Nigeria,” said Buhari.
Previously, the College’s Commander, AVM Ebenezer Alade, said senior course 43 started on August 5, 2020.
Alade said a total of 226 participants graduated, including 10 international officers from Tanzania; Chad, Togo, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Gambia.
The commander said the collage has continued to review and expand its agenda to reflect emerging military thinking in warfare and personnel development. (NAN)
