The Osun State University, Osogbo, is set to graduate its first set of 90 medical doctors during its 16th convocation ceremonies scheduled to begin on Saturday.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Clement Adebooye, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the institution’s main campus in Osogbo to formally flag off the convocation ceremonies.
Adebooye said the 90 medical graduates had successfully completed the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programme after meeting the required statutory and professional accreditation requirements.
He said the graduates were inducted into the medical profession by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria on August 12, 2026, and would be presented with their degrees on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
“The first set of students for our Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery programme (MBBS) successfully completed their course of study in the session having sailed through all the required statutory and professional accreditation requirements.

“All of them, 90 in number, were inducted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria on 12th August, 2026, and shall be presented their degrees on Wednesday, 23rd September, 2026,” the VC said.
The Vice-Chancellor said the development was one of the highlights of the 16th convocation, which would see the university graduate a total of 4,357 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
He said 103 graduands would receive doctoral degrees, 400 would be awarded master’s degrees, 3,845 first degrees and nine postgraduate diplomas.
Giving a breakdown of the first-degree results, Adebooye said 88 graduands obtained First-Class Honours, 1,509 Second-Class Upper Division, 1,946 Second-Class Lower Division, 220 Third-Class Honours and three Pass Degrees.
The Vice-Chancellor also said the university was increasing its emphasis on technology and innovation to meet the changing demands of the labour market.
He said, “We are strengthening our academic programmes and research, deepening industry and professional partnerships, improving our infrastructure and creating an enabling environment for seamless teaching and learning.
“Our commitment is also reflected in our increasing emphasis on technology and innovation. The University is positioning itself to respond effectively to the changing demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the emerging knowledge economy.”
Adebooye said the university would continue to proffer solutions to challenges confronting it, adding that the Osun State Government had remained supportive of the management in running the institution.
He also noted that pioneer students admitted during his first year as Vice-Chancellor into 17 academic programmes would receive their degrees during the convocation.
