A Russian strike killed four people and injured five others in southeastern Ukraine on Saturday, according to the head of the regional military administration, as Moscow and Kyiv continued their exchange of long-range missile and drone attacks.
Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration, said the attack struck the city of Kamianske.
Five people were injured in the strike, including a 30-year-old woman who was in intensive care, Ganzha said.
The attack came despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposing a temporary ceasefire with Russia to coincide with the expected visit of US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner this weekend.
The two envoys were dispatched by US President Donald Trump as part of Washington’s latest effort to revive stalled diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
Trump said Witkoff and Kushner were carrying a proposal intended to help break the diplomatic deadlock in Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II.
The latest casualties highlight the continuing intensity of the conflict as diplomatic efforts get underway, with both Russia and Ukraine continuing to launch attacks deep behind each other’s front lines.
