DHQ Debunks AI-Generated Video Portraying CDS as Backing Political Party

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed as fake an artificial intelligence-generated video falsely portraying the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, as making statements indicating support for a political party.

In a statement, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the video did not originate from the Chief of Defence Staff and that the comments attributed to him were entirely false.

The DHQ urged members of the public to disregard the video, describing it as an AI-generated manipulation allegedly created to deceive the public, misrepresent the position of the CDS and damage the reputation of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution, committed to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the defence of the nation,” the statement said.

The Defence Headquarters condemned the creation and circulation of the fabricated material, warning those responsible, as well as individuals who knowingly promote it, to stop immediately.

The military authorities also advised members of the public to verify information about the Armed Forces through official Defence Headquarters communication channels.

The DHQ identified its verified platforms as its Facebook page, Defence Headquarters Nigeria; X handle, DHQNigeria; Instagram account, DefenceHQ; WhatsApp channel, Defence Headquarters Nigeria; and YouTube channel, DefenceTV-Nigeria.

The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the use of AI-generated content to create misleading audio and video materials involving public figures.
