former member of the House of Representatives, Aminu Danmaliki, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Danmaliki, who represented Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, announced his defection during a press briefing in Bauchi on Saturday.

He said his decision followed what he described as careful reflection, wide consultations and prayers, adding that it was based on principles rather than political convenience.

“Today is not simply about changing political parties. It is about choosing principles over convenience. It is about choosing conviction over comfort. It is about choosing the people over power,” he said.

The former lawmaker stated that he left the APC without bitterness, stressing that leadership should focus on addressing the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians.

He expressed concern over the country’s economic situation, citing rising hunger, unemployment, inadequate healthcare and limited access to quality education as major issues confronting citizens.

According to him, the primary responsibility of government is to protect the people, improve their welfare and create opportunities for economic growth.

Danmaliki described the PRP as a political platform committed to social justice, accountability, quality education, affordable healthcare, rural development and inclusive economic opportunities.

He also said Bauchi State possesses enormous agricultural, mineral and human resources but has yet to realise its full potential because of poor leadership and inconsistent implementation of people-centred policies.

The former legislator reaffirmed his commitment to public service, recalling his experience as a journalist, commissioner, lawmaker, entrepreneur, President of the Bauchi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, and founder of educational and healthcare institutions.

Danmaliki declared his support for Sen. Shehu Buba as the PRP’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State election, describing him as a leader with courage, vision and commitment.

He pledged to mobilise support for the party across the state and urged youths, women, farmers, artisans, traders, professionals, traditional rulers and religious leaders to join efforts toward building a better Bauchi and Nigeria through issue-based politics.
