Two Nigerians Jailed Seven Years for Armed Robbery in Kuwait

Two Nigerian Thieves

A Kuwait Court of Appeal has upheld a seven-year and six-month prison sentence imposed on two Nigerian nationals convicted in connection with the armed robbery of a currency exchange shop in Mahboula.

According to local media reports, the ruling was delivered on Monday by the Second Circuit of the Court of Appeal, headed by Counselor Nasr Salem Al-Haid, with Counselors Mutaib Al-Aradhi and Saud Al-Sane as members of the panel.

The court affirmed an earlier judgment against members of a Nigerian gang accused of carrying out the robbery and theft at the exchange outlet in January 2025.

The suspects were arrested by the General Department of Criminal Investigation in Kuwait’s Ahmadi Governorate following investigations into the incident.

Prosecutors alleged that the first four defendants conspired to steal money from the exchange shop, with the second defendant reportedly using a fake firearm to intimidate victims while facilitating the theft by the third and fourth defendants with the assistance of the first defendant.

A fifth defendant was accused of collaborating with the group by helping to conceal the stolen money and providing support after the robbery.

The Criminal Court had earlier sentenced the first and fifth defendants in person, while the remaining defendants were convicted in absentia.

The court imposed prison terms of seven years and six months on the first four defendants after amending the charges, while the fifth defendant received a six-month jail term.

The Court of Appeal upheld the convictions and sentences, according to a report by Al Rai newspaper.
