Anambra Vows Court Prosecution for Woman Who Burnt Maid with Hot Iron

Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has vowed to arraign a 29-year-old woman, Osinachi Ede, before a competent court for allegedly torturing her 17-year-old maid—a student at Community Secondary School, Agulu Awka—with a hot electric iron over an unauthorized phone call.

Chuma-Udeh issued the directive during a Friday, February 20, confrontation with the suspect in her Awka office, stressing prosecution as a deterrent to child abuse.

She ordered the victim, previously sent to relatives, returned to Awka, reaffirming Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to child welfare in schools.

“The suspect will be arraigned to serve as a deterrent,” Chuma-Udeh stated. “This reflects the governor’s resolve to protect every child from abuse.”

She warned that the full weight of the law awaits anyone culpable of brutalising children in the state.
