President Donald Trump on Sunday announced a proposed $2,000 “tariff dividend” for Americans, excluding high-income earners, citing economic gains from his administration’s trade policies.

In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump said the United States had become “the richest, most respected country in the world” due to his tariff strategy, adding that the dividend would be paid to “everyone, not including high-income people.”

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER,” Trump wrote.

The announcement has sparked debate among economists and political analysts, with questions raised about the feasibility and funding of the proposed payout.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent later clarified that the dividend may not be a direct cash payment, but could include tax relief measures such as exemptions on tips, overtime, and Social Security earnings.

The White House has yet to release formal guidelines on eligibility or distribution timelines.

Trump’s announcement comes amid rising global scrutiny of U.S. trade policies and their domestic impact.

Ravenewsonline reports that the proposed dividend is expected to feature prominently in upcoming budget discussions and may influence voter sentiment ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
