Anyim, Former Senate President Mourns Gulak

Former Senate Speaker Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim mourns the late Alhaji Ahmed Gulak and described his disappearance as “one death too many”.

Gulak was a senior assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Anyim said in a statement in Abuja on Monday that the news of Gulak’s gruesome murder “his friend and colleague has put him in distress.”

He described the deceased as a man of conviction and courage, endowed with great intellectual prowess, a devoted nationalist and a staunch friend.

The former Senate Speaker added: “May 30, 2021 is without a doubt the darkest Sunday of my life.

“The news of the horrific murder of my friend and colleague, the Hon. Ahmed Gulak put me in distress and it took me until the morning of May 31, 2021 to regain my shocked spirits.

“Hon. Ahmed Gulak was my colleague in President Goodluck’s administration. He was a man of conviction and courage.

“He was endowed with great intellectual prowess which allowed him to have an unusual clarity of thought and expression; a devoted nationalist and a loyal friend.

“The loss of Gulak, like other innocent Nigerians to unknown assailants, is the darkest point of the senseless and senseless violence that is growing in the country and in the south-east. This death is one too many.

“The security agencies have a duty to humanity to unravel and bring to the book those who are behind this despicable act. My heart goes out to the family of the Hon. Gulak. ”

Anyim prayed to God to grant Gulak’s soul eternal rest and his family the courage to endure irreparable loss.

Police spokesman in Imo, SP Bala Alkana, confirmed on Sunday the murder of Gulak in Owerri by suspected bandits.

According to Alkana, at around 7.20 a.m. on Sunday morning, bandits stopped and attacked a Toyota Camry taxi carrying Gulak and two others who were on their way to Sam Mbakwe airport to catch a flight.

He said Gulak left his room at the Protea Hotel without informing police or sister security agencies despite the fragile security situation in the southeast and in Imo in particular.
